Flick Picks May 12th

We’re in a bit of a lull right now for the new shows coming out, but Fahrenheit 451 does air on the 19th.

A lot of studios announced cancellations this week,. Brooklyn Nine-Nine was canceled, but then picked up the next by NBC, so yay for that. Thanks Lin Manuel-Miranda. Unfortunately Lucifer is done. Everyone on the show seemed surprised by this because apparently it ends on a big cliffhanger. The Crossing, which I really liked, won’t get a second season. Also canceled are Ash v. Evil Dead, the Expanse, The Inhumans (no surprise there), The Last Man on Earth, The Exorcist, Once Upon a Time and The X-Files.

On the positive side, The 100 has been renewed for a season 6, Agents of SHIELD will be back also Blindspot, Kobra Cai, The Good Place, Big Bang Theory, The Gifted, The Orville and Santa Clarita Diet. Still waiting to hear about Timeless, Gotham and Ghosted.

A bunch of new shows were announced this week, but I’ll save that for a different show.

It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Wynonna Earp would  be getting a season 3. We finally have a release date. Syfy announced that the show will be back on July 20th. For those of you who were a fan of Lost Girl, which I will guilty announce I was, Anna Silk will be joining the cast. Zoie Palmoer, who played Dr. Lauren Lewis on Lost Girl will also be a guest star on the show.

Fox did announce that they will be creating a TV series based on Justin Cornin’s vampire novel The Passages. The books span 90 years, so if FOX doesn’t cancel the show, cough, it’s got plenty of material to draw from. Mark-Paul Gosselaar will be headlining the show.

Aquaman will be getting his own Lego animated feature, The Rage of Atlantis. Dee Bradley Baker will return as Aquaman as well as several DC comics veterans, Nolan North, Troy Baker, Grey Griffin, Khary Payton, Cristina Milizia. And making her Lego debut, but no stranger to the DC universe, Susan Eisenberg, who is probably best known as Wonder Woman in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. The DVD will be out on blue-ray and digitally July 31st.

Bill and Ted 3 is finally happening, Bill & Ted Face the Music. Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves are both on board and Dean Parisot, from Galaxy Quest, is set to direct. The script is being written by Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard will be getting a sequel. Apparently it will be called The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. No writer has been announced, but Sam Jackson and Ryan Reynolds are conformed and presumably Selma Hayek, based on the title and Patrick Hughes is expected to return as director.

We’ve learned that Annette Bening will be joining Captain Marvel and rumor has it that it will be as Carol’s mother.

A movie that hasn’t gotten a lot of press but looks amazing is Cargo, starring Martin Freeman. It drops on the 5/18 on Netflix. It’s based on a short film by Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howling that aired on YouTube. Freeman stars as an infected father with 48 hours to live who travels across Australia to find a safe place for his infant daughter.

And of course the big news of the week is that Deadpool 2  is out on the 18th.
