Flick Picks May 19th

1) Fahrenheit 451 premiered today on HBO. I can’t wait to watch this.

2) Little sidebar here before I dive in. Can I just say that, while I love the CW, I’m very disappointed that they decided not to pick up Wayward Sisters because they wanted to do the Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies instead. Come on CW, you can do better. While the Legacies premise sounds interesting, we need the Wayward Sisters way more than we need another show filled with teen heartthrobs. That is all.

DC has been working hard on their TV universes.

3) We’ve learned that Batwoman and Gotham City will be joining the Arrowverse when they have their next crossover event in December. I’m so excited for this. Last year’s Crisis on Earth X crossover was pretty epic.

4) Gotham has been picked up for a 5th and, unfortunately, final 13 episode season. Boo, FOX. Not happy with you lately. You’ve canceled several shows that I like. Thankfully Brooklyn 99 was picked up by NBC. But you cancel Lucifer and bring back Last Man Standing. WTF? Still no word on Ghosted. So, were only getting one more season of Gotham and it’s essentially half a season. This is one of my favorite TV shows.

5) A live action Doom Patrol TV series will be coming to the DC streaming service. The Doom Patrol is set to be introduced on the upcoming Titans TV show and then will spin off into its own series. It’s being written by Supernatural’s Jeremy Carver and will drop in 2019.

6) DC is working on the another Batman prequel, Pennyworth. The show will air on Epix and will have nothing to do with the CW Arrowverse or Fox’s Gotham even though it’s being created by Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller. It’s going to focus on the early days of Alfred, a British SAS soldier who forms a secret company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne in 1960s London.

In Marvel TV news.

7) Rumor has it that Wilson Bethel will be playing Bullseye on season 3 of Daredevil. And that his character could be an adaptation of the one created by writer Jason Aaron for Punisher MAX.

8) Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be getting a 6th season. However, it won’t be released until summer of 2019. That’s because Marvel has to release Avengers 4 before the show can return, in order to protect spoilers. Unfortunately, we’ll only be getting 13 episodes. That doesn’t bode well for the future of the series.

9) Kevin Feige announced that there are plans to introduced Ms. Marvel to the MCU. It looks like Captain Marvel may set up an opportunity to add Kamala Khan, since her comic-book character is inspired and mentored by Carol Danvers. Obviously we don’t know if they’re planning a movie or another Netflix show.

10) Jessica Chastain’s all female spy thriller, 355, sold its global distribution rights in just a matter of days after announcing it at Cannes. The movie will star Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz and Fan Bingbing. Simon Kinberg, from X-Men Dark Phoenix, will be directing.

11) Zombieland 2 is still in the works. 2019 will be the 10 year anniversary of the film and original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have confirmed that Zombieland 2 should be released in October of that year with all the original cast returning.

13) If Deadpool 2 opening this weekend wasn’t exciting enough, Solo: A Star Wars Story opens next weekend. I’m cautiously optimistic about the film. So we’ll see.
