Flick Picks June 9th

1) Humans season three returned to AMC on June 5th and there are some new characters. Season three takes place a year after the events of season 2. The show will feature new synths Agatha, played by Holly Earl and Anatole plated by Ukweli Roach. There’s also the addition of a behavioral scientist named Neil, played by Mark Bonnar.

2) Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger premiered on Freeform on Thursday and so far I’m really enjoying it. It’s quite a departure from the comics so I’m interested to see where they go.

3) The latest Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse trailer revealed the addition of Spider-Gwen, who will be voiced by Pitch Perfect’s Hailee Steinfeld. She’ll be joining an older Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

4) It’s been announced that Kahyum Kim will replace Gillian Anderson as the new god of Media in season 2 of American Gods. Best known for her stint on Shameless, Kim will not be taking over for Anderson, she will adopt the role of New Media, an entirely new character.

5) DC has announced that they plan to launch their streaming service, DC Universe, in late August. The service is going to carry a back catalog of animated TV shows and movies and then they will be producing new content. They already have several shows in production: Swamp Thing, Titans, Young Justice: Outsiders, Metropolis and an animated Harley Quinn series.

6) Yet another Joker Movie is in the works and this one is a spinoff of Suicide Squad starring Jared Leto, who will also be executive producing. So we’ve got this movie, the Harley Quinn and Joker movie, also starring Leto, and the unrelated Joker movie likely starring Joaquin Phoenix. Margot Robbie is also going to be busy staring in her own solo movie and likely appearing in Gotham City Sirens and Birds of Prey. And of course Suicide Squad 2.

7) Hasbro has announced that, following the purchase of Saban, more Power Rangers will be in the works. Hasbro said they feel the brand has been under leveraged and undervalued and they plan to rebuild the brand.

8) We now know that James Marsden will be starring in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. The movie is going to be a live-action CGI hybrid adaptation of the video game. Marsden will be playing Tom, a sarcastic cop who teams up with Sonic to take down Dr. Eggman.

9) The Crow reboot doesn’t seems to have stalled yet again. Star Jason Momoa and director Corin Hardy have both left the project.

10) Jamie Foxx will be starring as Al Simmons in the Spawn movie reboot. Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions will be working with Todd McFarlane on the new movie. McFarlane, who created the character, will write, direct and produce the film himself.

11) Oceans 8 opened this past weekend and I can’t wait to see it. And next week we have The Incredibles 2 to look forward to.
